Grand Solmar Timeshare Scam Avoidance Squad knows vacationers are often the targets of scams. One of the best defenses a vacationer has is being aware of what’s going on at all times. If they know all the different tactics these ripoff cons use, they are often not as likely to be a victim. One scam that is being commonly used is known as the lost money scam.
There are different versions of this scam, but they do follow some similar patterns. Grand Solmar Timeshare Scam Prevention Team says that on certain occasions, someone on vacation may find a wallet that has money in it. A local will also spot it at the same moment. The local will suggest that they split the money that has been found inside. The wallet usually does not contain any ID so there will be no way to find the owner for return.
After the money is divided up, the local will leave and a second person approach claiming to be the owner of the lost wallet. They describe the wallet and can also claim how much money was in it. They demand the person gives them the wallet and all of the money back that was inside. Since the person left, the other person will expect the full amount of the funds from you.
There is another version that may happen, and this one involves the local sticking around. The difference is the owner of the wallet will say there was more money in the wallet than. The local will agree to give half of the money claimed and also may suggest the traveler does the same thing. Once again the traveler will be out more money than originally planned all because of scammers.
